Writing Prompts due February 2nd

Think about the following questions to lead your written reflections on the homework assigned this week:

Readings

Hetland, L. and Winner, E. Art for Our Sake: School arts classes matter more than ever – but not for the reasons you think.
  • What does this article have to say about what art making has to do with learning? What stood out for you? Reflect on this reading.
Tharp, T. The Creative Habit
  • Reflect on what Twyla Tharp has to say about the process of art making. What stands out about the way she approaches her practice? Reflect on this reading.

Studio Habits Thinking

Using the Studio Habits sheet we gave you in class or go to the following weblink Eight Studio Habits of Mind to write a reflection on your personal art making process. Apply the Studio Habits of the Mind to your art process. Be specific - give examples. Be prepared to share this next week in class.

Think about the following questions as you think and write about the Studio Habits:
  • What implications do these have for teaching the whole child?
  • In what areas of your own practice do you use any of these?
  • What else is art for beyond making art?
  • What is important, and possibly essential, in the process for human development, learning, culture, etc.?
Respond to a fellow classmates reflection
At the right side menu of this page under the heading "Ideas in Art Education Journals, Spring 2009" you will see a list of links to each others blogging journals. Please go into each other blogs and see what others are saying - then pick at least one person to respond to by adding a comment at the bottom of their post. Be thoughtful about your response.

Anyone of you who have not yet posted to your blog make sure to set it up and get going with this this week so others can send you comments!
